My daughter, K, turned 4 a few days ago. I was taking her picture and she said, "Now we should take one together." So I turned the camera around and did the standard Facebook profile shot with K on my lap. Looking at the picture, I cringed.
"Wow," I said. "Mommy looks horrible in that one."
She looked at me like I'd told her that chocolate was yucky. "Mommy, you look beautiful."
She said it so matter-of-factly. So confidently. And she meant every syllable.
When do we lose that?
